Longtime Facebook veteran Bosworth presides over Meta’s Reality Labs division, working to build out a functional metaverse while keeping Meta’s market lead on VR headsets intact as Mark Zuckerberg handles the fallout of a disastrous year on Wall Street. Meta’s Quest products accounted for nearly 80% of global AR and VR headset shipments in 2021, per IDC, with Meta saying it has seen $1.5 billion in revenue to date from Quest software. Despite some negative reception to Reality Labs’ metaverse-driven “Horizon Worlds” project, Bosworth is working to release the division’s biggest headset yet via the Meta Quest Pro, which began shipping in October at $1,500. The price is staggering, but extensive partnerships with Microsoft and Peacock combined with a massive overhaul of its specs prove Meta is holding firm on being the most versatile AR and VR player.
